                     Welcome to Japan

Planning a trip to Japan or just want information on it? You have come to the right place.

Japan is made up of 4 main islands: Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku. There are many little islands also.  There are lots of mountains because of major earthquakes.  The reason for the earthquakes is because there are tectonic plates that slide together and move the area.

The Maneki Neko is a statue of a cat that stands for a lot of different things.  One thing it stands for is  good luck and to bring happiness to people.

There is a legend about the cat:
A woman was so poor she had to sell her cat.
Her cat appeared in her dream and told her to build a cat statue and try to sell it. She tried to sell it and she did. She became very rich from building that cat statue.
Then the good luck cat was born.

The cat has one arm that moves up and down or stays in place.  If  the right hand is up then it stands for good fortune.

If the left hand is up then legend says it will bring you money.

The cats are everywhere in Japan.
